I self-published a professional book nearly one year ago with iUniverse. The preparations process was fairly straight forward and I had no real problems with it.

However, as soon as the final document was sent the problems began. After spending $3,469 I received my 10 books. First, almost immediately I began receiving marketing calls from iUniverse to "buy" marketing services. iUniverse takes 85% of every sale yet they want me to pay for the book and marketing.

Second, even though I sent in images that were 600 dpi they all appear to be low resolution copies printed on the cheapest paper available. Third, even though I was forced to set a single price for each of the two versions, iUniverse ignores the established pricing and sells them for the price they want. They also calculate my royalties based on the price they sold the books for not the price I set for the products. Fourth, I have only received one royalty check for the last quarter of last year.

Even though I have called them four times over the last four months to address the two missing royalty checks for the first two quarters of last year that I never received, they still have not issued the checks. Each time I talk to them I have to verify my address (which BTW is always correct). they withheld taxes and created a 1099-misc saying they paid me a royalty.

I am ready to cancel my contract and retract permission to print or sell my book.

I will be better served reissuing the book through DiggyPOD and retaining 100% of the profits.

I wonder if we have a class action cause?

Reason of review: Problems with payment.

I have unfortunately published my book through iUniverse in September 2014 and have received a check for only $4.00 after spending over $4,500.00.

Marketing was a scam after collecting few hundred dollars from me.

They have not shown any accounting as to how many soft cover, hard cover or e Books sold in two years.

Whenever they call it either to sell something or sell books to me.

I WILL JOIN CLASS ACTION.
