Self-Publishing Scam / Alleged Fraud / Multiple Complaints | Iuniverse review

wingedbirdinflight@live.com / code word "Justice": 2007: Three books published... then thrown in the well of never never land... All over (all three books) the internet... [past and present] -- For sale via numerous (Amazon; Barnes and Noble; EBay; other) sites... both new and (ahem) used... Still, no reported sales via IUniverse [recent contact] since 2010... No way to access info on site (despite what they might claim) for years... [BTW, be sure to read the small print "privacy" note!) No reputable accounting for anything. Say hey? Anybody out there interested in a serious lawsuit (seems apropro; look around!) against this organization? IUniverse also made two of my books into e-books against my expressed and definitive no. Say hey? Who wrote the books? ME. One year. Three books. Heart and soul. "Why don't you sue?" "You should sue the A off these people." "OMG, your books are all over!" How many times have I heard this? 10 X 10 X.... Guess what? Got an "apology" today for the "EBook" situation... An "apology." Well, thank you very much... but considering all the money I paid IUniverse for every word and every little error... it seems like Errors = Money and I am owed a great deal of "same." I put my email first so that folks could contact me about a potential class action suit. Otherwise: Peace be with you and also with me. Time to tip the scales! [I will not put the value of my loss here because that has not been calculated yet. How much is the company worth?

My first book has GREAT reviews but, through iuniverse, is print on demand only. They out-source too much of their personal contacts to the Philippines (where English is optional and it sounds like 1,000 people put into an empty warehouse. My royalty checks are small...

I never got paid the royalties for my books. I was able to buy my books from Amazon for less than I could buy my discounted books at IUniverse. So I bought books from Amazon and was supposed to be paid royalties from them and never got royalties on books bought by me...

No. This is what Author Solutions, Iuniverse, Xlbiris and all the other scams associated with them do.

They simply steal everything and their defense is that any person who is so stu-pid as to use a vanity publisher is too stu-pid to understand that no one will ever buy their books, and that there will be no royalties. (Even when they're should be royalties they can always say this and everyone believes them because most people think anyone who would go with a vanity publisher must be pretty stu-pid so they get away with stealing any royalties they should pay out.

IUniverse self-publishing over-rides my authority.

In trust I Used their costly service to edit my book. After editing they send to me interior book blocks, meaning...I'm to make changes/corrections, there's and mine. Changes that's okay,.but to correct their errors or point them out...cone on. After making changes and corrections, your charged additionally to re edit. WHAT. Manuscript cut by 1-third, words ran together, grammar errors, gaps between words in most lines. I fought with them and gave in. I wanted something for my $1800, I told them to finish production but DO NOT PUBLISH THIS TRASH, not with my name on it, not being my first book. I found out yesterday...7/30/12 that my book is live and for sale. I'm the Author, they have no authority. needles to say, Integrity. iUnivers has no regards to the quality of work or clients they publish, and with their name written all on it. I'll now have to publish (not with them) under a fictitious name, and will not be recognized as an Author. Punitive damage. I again am in the ring with them. This time I'm hiring a Ref. Signed Bolo

Well, Peter. Mine was the premier Package, still the idiots can't edit.

Do you think your comment will sell us? Your talking to people / victims here. Liars - yes they (iuniverse ) are. I was told my novella would be priced at $4.50, try 65 pages for $8.95?

They don' t care that your book sits dormant. I saw the other day where they got sued for over 1 million dollars due to editing literature for schools, something of that nature.

Pete, send me your work, I'm just as qualified to edit. I don't mean to pick on you, but come on.

They will publish your book because I found out they use the books to launder money for organized crime gangs. All the corrupt and terrible things they do to clients are just the tip of the iceberg.

Other names for this company Xlibris, Author Solutions, Balboa Press. All the same scammers

I just read your remarks concerning iUniverse. I've published two books through them and am currently republishing the first.

I've found their services to be first class. The fact the the original two books were published still containing a host of errors was no fault of theirs - you get what you pay for and I chosen the cheapest option!!! The second time round I opted for the comprehensive editing package other than the book doctor.

Yes, it is expensive but the result is amazing. While they may have made constructive suggestions, they certainly never 'over-rode' my authority.

They already own it and are silent investors that don't give a *** that their secondary income stream is run by outrageous scammers. They've also been let off the legal suit by the judge but Author Solutions is still being sued.

The judge just let Pearsons and Penguin free from the law suit.

Jeff definitely works for Author Solutions they use the fact that Pearsons bought it to scam more people every day. Google this "the author exploitation business" to read more (asking you to google as Pissed Consumer doesn't like people posting links.

I am a first time author and thought that self-publishing was the best choice. The book was actually just released as of 3/29/12. I have done a huge amount of PR work on my own and know for a fact I have sold a large number of copies. What concerns me is that I have...

My book is coming out this month, and I already agree with everything I have seen written here. iUniverse from what I have gone through so far is a tragic excuse for a self-publishing company. They are porly managed and staffed by unhappy people from what I can see. The only person I had a good rapport with was the original sales person I talked with when I signed up, she was plesent and listend to me. (Her job I am sure!)

I spent years meditating to develope a positive attitude and patience, dealing with iUniverse for the last seven months has stripped me bare! When I first check on-line I read positive articles about them, but now 95% of what I read is negative. And I truly believe the other 5% is put on-line by managers and salespeople that work for iUniverse. That is sad. I understand that many times first books do not make any money, but the obserdity of what iUniverse is telling their clients (1 book sold) when most people have more family than that :) tests the bounds of belief. I will certainly join any class action suit that is lodged against iUniverse if they give me those kind of answers about book sales.

I am going to keep a journal at book signings, names of purchasers and where the book was purchased etc.

My book is a series-you can bet that I am not going to have them publish the next one!!
